- Tempo Trainer Example Sets
- Set I – Stay on pace with the Finis Tempo Trainer Pro:
- Calculate a pace based on a goal time. For example, if you want to go 2:00 in a 200m freestyle, break the swim up into 4 lengths
- To maintain a 2:00 you must hold :30 per 50m.
- Set the tempo trainer in Mode 2 to :30. The TTP will triple beep every :30 seconds.
- Do your best to touch the wall before you hear the beep. Staying ahead of this pace will train you to maintain the correct pace over the course of the 200m swim.
- With the flexibility of the TTP, you are able to do this with all paces over all distances
- Use the sync button to leave on an interval. Just hit the button when it’s time to go and you’re set for the entire workout
- Set II – Find the optimal stroke rate:
- In Mode 3 set the numeric stroke rate(SR) on a number you are comfortable with, start with a low number ~25 to get the timing and feel of working with the beep and your stroke rate.
- Start a series of 50m freestyle swims, each time the TTP beeps time it with your hand hitting the water
- As you finish, note the time it took you to swim the 50m
- Increase your stroke rate throughout the swim while maintain your speed. There will be a point where too high of a stroke rate will lead to slower swimming times. At that point reduce the stroke rate.
- It will be ideal to find the lowest stroke rate with the fastest time,
- For Example it may look similar to this
- SR=55 – 50m time= :28
- SR=56 – 50m time=:27
- SR=57 – 50m time= :28
- SR=58 – 50m time= :30
- Finding the most efficient stroke rate is something that the tempo trainer is built to do and once you are able to train to it, it will benefit you every time you’re in the water.
