CHLORINE… But how much is the key.
For this you need to know how big your pool is. For this example, lets use a 18’ x 36’ Rectangle Inground Pool.
A normal shock for that pool is 10L of Liquid Chlorine when the pool is clear. When the pool is cloudy, we do a double shock, 20L of Liquid Chlorine. When the pool is green, we do a triple shock, 30L of Liquid Chlorine. Ask us what your normal shock, double shock and triple shock are if you are unsure.
To understand the process of killing the algae think of a bonfire…
If you knew that you needed to put 3 buckets of water on the fire to put it out and you only put 1 bucket, what would happen? You would put out some of the fire, but it will still be going and continue to burn. But if you put all 3 buckets on at the same time you will put the fire right out.
Same goes for killing the algae. You always want to put chlorine in the evening. That way the sun does not burn it up before it has a chance to do its job! Anytime you put chlorine in you want to brush the whole pool. Algae comes into your pool by rain and wind and debris and then attaches itself to the walls and floor of your pool and will not be killed if attached. By brushing all the pool you get it free flowing and the chlorine can do its job. Algae can live in a pool with chlorine but can’t with a triple shock. Following up with a good strong algaecide like 4LG or MBA 60 is necessary to keep algae from multiplying. Algaecide stops the growth of algae and a triple shock of chlorine kills it.
So, then the next question would be how do I keep from getting algae?
Make sure your pump is running, if its not then it is not filtering. Keep chlorine in the pool at all times. You want to put your chlorine in when you get to the 2 on the test strips. There are numbers on all test strips. There is a 1 and a 3 as you see below. When you get to where the 2 is put in your chlorine that night. Depending on what your pool looks like.
1 shock (clear), double shock (cloudy) or triple shock (green).
